Derry is Our Hometown
Although it is a town and not a city, Derry is the fourth most-populous community in New Hampshire. The town's nickname, "Space-town", derives from the fact that Derry is the birthplace of Alan Shepard, the first US astronaut in space. Among those other notable former residents are: Mary Lyon, a pioneer in the education of women; Robert Frost, America's favorite poet; Buddy Stewart, a pioneer of jazz; Robert Rogers, a military innovator; "Lefty' Tyler, the star pitcher with the "Miracle Braves" of 1916; Samantha Brown, the star of many travel television shows; and Trish Dunn-Luoma, a multi-medal winning Olympian.
